What is Armodafinil?
"Armodafinil" belongs to a class of drugs known as "wakefulness-enhancing agents". It works by changing the concentration of certain natural molecules in the part of the brain that controls sleep and wakefulness.
Armodafinil is used to treat excessive sleepiness such as narcolepsy (a condition that causes excessive daytime sleepiness) or shift work sleep disorder (sleepiness during prescribed waking hours and is associated with night-time work or travel). Artvigil and Waklert both medicines are popular for narcolepsy treatment.
Armodafinil is also used to prevent excessive sleepiness caused by obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS; a sleep disorder in which the patient stops breathing for short periods of time or takes many shallow breaths) or with other asthma treatments. It is also used to treat sleeping difficulties in people.
